Job Description

Position: Specialty Indian Cuisine Chef

Employment type: full-time, 40 hrs/week (Early morning, Evening, Morning, Night, Day)

Number of positions: One (1)

Job Duties:

  • Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory for West and East Indian cuisine menus, including vegetarian dishes and special-event forecasting.
  • Demonstrate Indian cooking techniques and the safe use of new kitchen equipment to cooking staff, ensuring consistency and efficiency during service.
  • Create and standardize new recipes, including vegetarian options, sauces, spice blends, marinades, and presentation specifications.
  • Plan menus and ensure all food meets established quality standards for taste, presentation, portioning, and consistency.
  • Instruct cooks in the preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of dishes to meet the Restaurant’s quality standards.
  • Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty Indian foods for events such as banquets, catering functions and weddings, including customized menus as required.
  • Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff in the preparation and service of Indian cuisine, including task assignment, workflow management, and quality control.
  • Prepare and cook Indian food on a regular basis, and for special guests or functions, using authentic techniques and high-quality ingredients.
  • Prepare and cook Indian meals and specialty foods, including vegetarian dishes, ensuring accuracy, portioning, timing, and consistent flavour profiles.
  • Requisition food and kitchen supplies, including specialty ingredients, spices, vegetarian staples, and event-specific items needed for menu execution.
  • Consult with clients regarding weddings, banquets, and specialty functions to plan appropriate menus, and service formats.
  • Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food, including Indian cuisine techniques, food handling, and food safety and sanitation requirements.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Secondary (high) school graduation certificate required.
  • Cook's trade certification, or equivalent credentials, training and experience are required.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience as a Chef specializing in Indian cuisines (preferably in both west and east Indian foods and vegetarian dishes).
  • Catering experience is an asset
  • Must be able to work in a team, under pressure, and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously
  • Good work ethic, self-motivated experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and be self-motivated.
