Position

Food Processing Skills Canada (FPSC), will provide solutions to address the workforce challenges in Canada’s food and beverage processing sector by improving foundational and transferable skills of essential food industry workers within the Canadian agri‑food supply chain, and by designing and implementing a nationally pre-tested training program focused on social‑emotional learning and essential and foundational skills that align with the Skills for Success (SFS) model. FPSC will develop and deliver tools, resources, and training programs, in both official languages, to employers and employees.

The project's specific objectives are to:

  • Develop new and update existing online tools and training resources that align with the Skills for Success (SFS) model and are designed to support employers, workers, job seekers, training organizations, and service organizations, to help Canadians better prepare for, get and keep a job, and adapt and succeed at work within the Agri-food supply chain; and
  • Provide industry stakeholders with tools and opportunities to learn about best practices in recruitment and retention within a skills-based developmental approach that aligns with the SFS model and supports modern hiring and HR management practices with diverse workforces.

 

Responsibilities

  • Define the scope of the project in collaboration with senior management to create a detailed work plan which identifies the activities needed to successfully complete the project, delivered on time and on budget.
  • Execute the project according to the project plan while monitoring the progress of the project and adjusting as necessary and managing project risk in a structured way to ensure successful completion
  • Determine the project milestones, milestone objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion
  • Provide strong contributions to overall project management systems and methods. Co-ordinate and manage implementation of corrective actions to achieve an effective plan
  • Determine the resources required to complete the project and develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities
  • Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders and experts in the field; always seeking new ideas to succeed whilst executing plans flawlessly and monitoring client satisfaction.
  • Guide the development and delivery of learning experiences and products including online and face-to-face courses, instructional videos, learning simulations, web and mobile apps, instructional manuals, and other resources
  • Implement a performance monitoring framework and data collection for all components for evaluation purposes;
  • Guide the implementation of standardized processes in the development of learning experiences and environments to ensure consistent quality and enhance the acquisition of client knowledge and skills
  • Employ proven training and assessment methods or innovation to achieve better transfer and retention of Knowledge, Skills or Abilities, or to achieve training efficiencies
  • Use of appropriate project planning tools e.g. Microsoft Project (or other selected project portfolio management tool) to communicate milestones and critical path activities and responsibilities
  • Develop forms and records to document project activities consistent with FPSC practices and set up files to ensure that all project information is appropriately documented and secured
  • Establish and overseas the execution of a communication plan to update stakeholders, job seekers, and service organizations including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project,
  • Establish and oversee the execution of a marketing plan measuring and reporting on results throughout the project timeline.
  • Review the quality of the work completed with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project standards

 

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years experience in project management – leading a project through all life cycle phases with a strong track record of achievement, preferably in food and beverage processing
  • Designation in project management or business management preferred
  • Evidence of leveraging a strong business performance through strong relationships with multiple functional stakeholders (e.g. can talk operational and commercial languages, relating to both worlds)
  • Experience developing and participating in evaluations of clients, learning service providers, vendors and consultants
  • Experience in or knowledge of curriculum development, training and learning management systems
  • Strong ability to organize and plan team activities toward specific goals and objectives
  • Bilingual (French & English) or other languages considered an asset
  • Strong written and communication skills, ability to create original correspondences and materials
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Ability to travel within Canada
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

 

Assets

  • Knowledge of the agri-food value chain, specifically the food manufacturing industry
  • Knowledge of the Skills for Success Framework
  • PMP or related designations
  • Background or experience in communications, business, human resources, training, job skills analysis, survey development, facilitation of meetings, or research.
  • Background or experience in food processing, food science, manufacturing, quality control, etc.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Outlook, word, excel, PowerPoint and project management software.
  • Experience in graphic design and marketing.
  • Experience or familiarity with online platforms and tools.
