Job Description

Are you a Senior Software Developer with a broad technical range, who enjoys rapidly prototyping new technologies and mentoring others? A strong full-stack Software Designer with expertise in PHP, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS? If so, Carmanah Signs, a leading technology provider to the global lottery industry, is looking for you!

We’re seeking a team player with a great attitude to help build our Lottery Portals and Digital Signage Content. You’ll partner closely with our DevOps, Delivery, and Operations teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure services on cloud infrastructure. You'll also contribute to innovation projects, including AI/ML features and internal tooling.

Job Type: Full-time Permanent

Working Hours: 35/week

Wage: $48.5/hour 

Key Responsibilities

• Write and maintain unit and integration tests; drive coverage targets and testable design.
• Model, index, and optimize MySQL schemas and queries for performance and reliability.
• Implement HTML5 video and image playback in Chromium using JavaScript; work with Linux graphics drivers to ensure hardware acceleration and optimize performance.
• Design, build, and maintain services and user interfaces for Portals and Digital Signage content.
• Conduct thoughtful PR reviews, mentor on coding standards, and enforce linting.
• Implement features using PHP, JavaScript, HTML/CSS; ensure responsive web design.
• Contribute to CI/CD using GitHub Actions, including build, automated tests, security scanning, deployments, and rollback strategies.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Delivery, and Operations; host regular demos and contribute to documentation.
• Apply secure coding practices and manage secrets appropriately; support audits and compliance needs. 

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software development delivering production web applications and services.

Qualifications

• Expertise in PHP, JavaScript, HTML/CSS; Proficient in Python.
• Strong MySQL experience
• Experience with HTML5 media APIs, and knowledge of MP4/H.264/AAC compatibility, bitrate & resolution profiles, keyframe/GOP settings, and ffmpeg transcoding presets.
• Track record of authoring tests (e.g., PHPUnit, Jest, PyTest or similar) and improving code quality.
• Implemented SSO (SAML/OIDC) with an IdP, including role/claim mapping and application configuration.
• Experience with AWS, Terraform (IaC), Docker, and GitHub Actions CI/CD.
• Familiarity with caching (e.g., Redis), non-relational databases (e.g. MongoDB/DynamoDB), queues (e.g., RabbitMQ), observability (e.g., CloudWatch/Grafana).
