Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervising and coordinating bricklaying activities on assigned projects by interpreting sketches, blueprints, shop drawings, structural sections, and project specifications, planning work sequences, assigning tasks, and determining the materials and labour required for both new bricklaying work on residential and commercial buildings and restoration work on heritage buildings.
Overseeing the restoration, cleaning, and re-surfacing of existing masonry structures, including the rebuilding of historic chimney stacks, tuck pointing and re-pointing of deteriorated mortar joints, and the application of veneer facings on heritage buildings.
Directing and overseeing the cutting, shaping, and laying of bricks, concrete blocks, stone, structural tiles, and similar materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, arches, and other structures in residential and commercial settings, including heritage buildings and monuments.
Resolving on-site work problems and recommending alternative methods or measures to improve productivity, workmanship, and product quality, particularly on sensitive heritage restoration work where conventional methods may not apply or could damage historic fabric.
Training and coordinating the work of bricklayers, stonemasons, apprentices, and labourers on assigned projects, including hands-on instruction in heritage techniques such as lime mortar mixing, tuck pointing, re-pointing to a matching historic profile, and replication of historic finishes, joint tooling, and bond patterns.
Inspecting completed work to verify compliance with project specifications, BC Building Code requirements, heritage conservation requirements, manufacturer's installation instructions, and the company's quality standards, and directing corrective action on any identified deficiencies.
Requisitioning masonry materials, specialty mortars, tooling, and supplies required for assigned projects, including sourcing of heritage-appropriate materials such as lime-based mortars, natural hydraulic lime products, and custom-matched stone or brick for restoration work.
Maintaining accurate project schedules, daily work records, and material usage logs, and reporting progress, resource needs, and jobsite issues to company management, and general contractors as applicable.
Coordinating work sequencing with other trades, general contractors, engineers, and heritage consultants on multi-trade projects, and attending site meetings as required.
Training workers in job duties, safety procedures, company policies, site-specific safety protocols, fall protection and scaffold safety standards, WHMIS / GHS labelling and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements, and the correct use of personal protective equipment.
Evaluating crew performance on assigned projects and recommending personnel actions to company management, including hirings, promotions, additional training, and disciplinary measures.
Wage/Salary: $37.50/hour

Skills Requirements
Education: No minimum education requirement.
Work Experience: At least 5 years of progressive brickmasonry, bricklaying, or stonemasonry experience in a non-labourer role, including at least 2 years in a supervisory, lead hand, or foreman capacity.
Skills:
Demonstrated ability to independently read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, structural sections, and bricklaying specifications, including the hierarchy of drawings and resolution of drawing discrepancies.
Demonstrated knowledge of the BC Building Code, WorkSafeBC regulations, WHMIS / GHS labelling and SDS requirements, and site-specific safety procedures applicable to bricklaying work.
Demonstrated knowledge of mortar types (M, S, N, O, K) and their appropriate applications, including selection of lime-based mortars for heritage re-pointing and restoration work.
Demonstrated and verifiable work experience leading, training, and mentoring bricklayers, stonemasons, apprentices, and labourers on active construction sites.
Demonstrated and verifiable work experience on heritage restoration projects, including lime mortar work, tuck pointing, re-pointing, and matching of historic masonry finishes and profiles.
Demonstrated competence with the full range of bricklaying and stonemasonry hand and power tools, including plugging chisels, pointing trowels, brick trowels, bolster chisels, club/lump hammers, pitch chisels for stone dressing, block cutters, and angle grinders, and knowledge of safe blade-speed and diamond blade operating limits.
Demonstrated ability to plan and oversee scaffold erection and fall-protection systems in accordance with WorkSafeBC requirements, including correct guardrail heights, tie intervals, lanyard anchorage, and plank overhang.
Must be able to lift at least 70 lbs and work outside in all weather conditions.
