Job Summary
FastLink Freight Systems is seeking reliable and safety-conscious Long-Haul Truck Drivers to transport goods and materials on regional, provincial, national and international routes.
Drivers will operate tractor-trailers, complete vehicle inspections, maintain transportation records, communicate with dispatch and ensure the safe and timely delivery of cargo. The position requires extended travel, overnight trips and cross-border driving.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks, including tractor-trailers, to transport goods and materials.
- Plan or adjust routes based on road, traffic and weather conditions.
- Use GPS, onboard computers and other navigation equipment to identify safe and fuel-efficient routes.
- Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy when required.
- Load and unload goods safely and efficiently.
- Secure cargo using tarps, straps and other cargo-securement equipment.
- Ensure the safety and security of cargo throughout transportation.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers.
- Inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold-storage equipment and other vehicle systems.
- Monitor the condition of the vehicle and report mechanical defects or safety concerns.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor emergency roadside repairs when required.
- Receive instructions from and relay information to central dispatch.
- Record cargo details, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
- Complete and maintain driver logbooks, bills of lading, inspection reports, trip reports, accident or incident reports and maintenance records.
- Prepare and maintain trans-border transportation documents.
- Follow delivery schedules and communicate with dispatchers, customers, shippers and receivers.
- Follow all traffic laws, Hours of Service requirements, cargo-securement rules and company safety procedures.
- Coach or assist colleagues regarding new work methods or driving techniques when required.
- Perform other related duties associated with the Long-Haul Truck Driver position.
Education and Experience
- Secondary school graduation certificate or equivalent experience.
- One month to less than seven months of related truck-driving experience.
- Previous long-haul or tractor-trailer driving experience is preferred.
Licence and Certification Requirements
- Valid Ontario AZ Class driver’s licence.
- Valid Air Brake or Z Endorsement.
- Valid driver’s licence and satisfactory driving record.
- Must successfully complete a driver’s licence validity check.
- Must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
- Must be able to meet applicable security-clearance and drug-testing requirements.
