Education: Personal Support Worker or related training
Experience: At least one year of experience providing personal care to individuals with similar needs, such as post-stroke or physically disabled clients requiring assistance with daily activities and mobility.
Work Environment: Employer’s home, non-smoking, scent-free
Target Audience: male with post-stroke and physically disabled
Responsibilities
Personal care & ADL assistance: Provide hands-on assistance with all activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, continence care, and personal hygiene, due to significant physical limitations following a severe stroke.
Mobility & transfer support: Assist with safe transfers between bed, wheelchair, chair, and toilet using proper body mechanics and assistive devices. Support bed mobility, repositioning, and wheelchair use.
Medication reminders & condition observation: Provide reminders for prescribed medications and observe for visible side effects, changes in pain level, alertness, or physical condition. Document observations and report concerns to family members or designated health-care contacts.
Meal preparation & feeding assistance: Prepare meals according to dietary needs related to post-stroke condition, including easy-to-chew or texture-modified foods. Assist with feeding as required and encourage adequate hydration.
Comfort care & pain awareness: Assist with regular repositioning, and other non-medical comfort measures to reduce discomfort, leg pain, and pressure-related issues. Observe and report signs of pain or distress.
Home safety support: Maintain a safe home environment by keeping pathways clear for wheelchair movement, ensuring proper lighting, and assisting with the safe use of mobility and household aids.
Companionship & emotional support: Provide companionship, conversation, and emotional reassurance. Support daily routines and help reduce isolation following stroke-related functional decline.
Escort & accompaniment: Accompany the care recipient to medical appointments or essential outings as needed, assisting with wheelchair handling and safe transfers during transportation.
Emergency response: Respond appropriately to emergency situations by following household emergency procedures, providing basic first aid if required, and contacting emergency services when necessary.If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.
